Senator Barack Obama – 2008 Presidential Candidate

Senator Barack Obama knows there's a problem facing Social Security and Medicare. That's why he'd like to remove the cap on the amount Americans pay to fund the shaky programs. Of course, wiser heads acknowledge that completely removing the wage cap would - at best - only solve about 40% of the problem. But, hey, at least he admits there's a problem.

Obama: Favors 'an equitable mix of benefit and tax changes' to extend the solvency of the program. Is open to lifting the amount of income that is taxed for Social Security. (The State, 4/22/07)
