Social Security is broken and its long-term outlook is getting worse. Unless it's fixed, our children and grandchildren will inherit the largest debt our country has ever known.

Currently, politicians from both parties are using our retirement future as a political weapon. They talk about who's going to save Social Security, but very few offer realistic solutions. They'd much rather frighten you into believing any effort to fix the problem will mean higher taxes or reduced benefits.

In reality, doing nothing GUARANTEES higher taxes and reduced benefits will have to be part of the eventual solution.

Meanwhile, our Social Security money is being spent on Congressional Members' pet projects instead of being saved to pay benefits to tomorrow's retirees. It's time for this to stop.

Last Fall, For Our Grandchildren sent "A Promise to Our Children and Grandchildren" to all Congressional candidates, asking them to sign it. Incredibly, 268 candidates signed the Promise.

Now, with your help, we're urging Congress to put politics aside and have a serious discussion about how to modernize Social Security so that it provides true retirement security for everyone and reduces the pressure on future taxpayers and other budget priorities.
