Background - For Our Grandchildren

For Our Grandchildren President Leannne Abdnor
Lea Abdnor, For Our Grandchildren President, debates the importance of fixing Social Security for women.

For Our Grandchildren was founded in 2002 by a group of people dedicated to discussing the demographic, economic and structural problems that the Social Security system faces. It is wrong and unfair to America's workers for Congress to use Social Security money for other purposes. It is wrong and unfair that today's generation of young Americans will inherit the greatest debt the world has ever known due to Social Security's unfunded liabilities.

We believe that it's time to set aside partisan politics and work together to solve these problems for the sake of our children and grandchildren. And we believe that younger workers deserve the right to protect their retirement savings in a personally-owned and protected Social Security retirement account.

For Our Grandchildren is a bipartisan Social Security education organization. Two of our four national spokespersons are former Democratic members of Congress, and our National Advisory Council consists of highly-regarded Republicans, Democrats, and Independents. Included on the Council are ten of the sixteen members of the bi-partisan President's Commission to Strengthen Social Security.

In recent years, For Our Grandchildren has initiated and been involved in a variety of activities all over the country. A sampling includes hundreds of speeches and debates, interviews on countless radio and television shows, op-eds placed in newspapers across the country, meetings with editorial boards, testimonies before the U.S. Congress, press conferences, print advertisements, and a dynamic website with an interactive blog feature.

The For Our Grandchildren Social Security Education Project is an undertaking of the American Institute for Full Employment, a 501(c)(3) organization.
